Welcome To the New Mexico Emergency Management

National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC) Updates

Emergency Management Institute on-campus training at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) is cancelled through August 1. This suspension supports CDC social distancing recommendations and allows our students to focus on their families and communities. For students scheduled for classes at NETC, our Admissions Office will contact them to reschedule. EMI course managers will contact field training delivery locations regarding the status of field-delivered courses. We will work to reschedule courses for later in the year to the maximum extent possible.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continues to monitor the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as it relates to COVID-19. To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the CDC is encouraging organizations to promote social distancing, hold meetings via videoconferencing, reduce non-essential travel, and adjust or postpone events and gatherings. As such, FEMA resident courses will be suspended until further notice. We continue to evaluate the national situation and will provide another update in late June.

To support our first responders and their loved ones during the COVID-19 crisis, LSU NCBRT/ACE has created a new video, “Safer at Home.” Designed for those whose professions demand they put themselves at higher risk of contracting COVID-19, this 3-and-a-half-minute video presentation introduces several safety measures that emergency responders and other essential personnel can use before and after shifts to minimize the risk of introducing the coronavirus into their homes.

The National Fire Academy is pleased to announce the release of the new online self-study course Introduction to Strategic Community Risk Reduction (CRR) (course code Q0841). Q0841 provides the learner with an understanding of what constitutes strategic CRR.

Students explore the history and evolution from fire prevention into all-hazards risk reduction. In addition to identifying the core components that build an effective CRR strategy, students learn how the process can help foster safe, healthy, prepared and resilient communities.

This introductory level course is an excellent stand-alone course for those new to CRR and/or other non-fire service audiences such as law enforcement, educators, allied health professionals, juvenile justice officials, and Wildland Urban Interface partners.

Q0841 will be a prerequisite course for entering the NFA's CRR program. For additional Information
